Swami Vivekananda quotes/thoughts about life, success, inspiration, and education- Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863 (according to scholars on Makar Sankranti Samvat 1920) in a Kayastha family in Calcutta. His childhood home was named Vireshwar, but his formal name was "Narendranath Dutt."

He was an important figure in the Western world of the Indian philosophy of Vedanta and Yoga and is credited with raising interdisciplinary awareness to give Hinduism the status of major world religion in the late 19th century.

He was a major force in the revival of Hinduism in India and contributed to the concept of nationalism in colonial India. Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission.

He is perhaps best known for his speech, which began with the words - "Sisters and brothers of America ...," in which he introduced Hinduism to the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893.
